Adhur is a Basque word meaning magic strength, and it is related to the moon and personified by the goddess Mari. Eate, who founded the band, chose the name because it defines his necessity to express the real meaning of his being and his relationship to the ancient Basque world through music.
Later Egoitz joined the band
and so the band was established as follows:
Eate: voice, guitars, percussion.
Egoitz: bass, key boards.
The three songs recorded
for this split CD belong to the Basque mythology and world view,
and each of them is closely related to this fact.
"Sua"
(fire) means creation, the beginning, and at the same time it is
the first song. The following, "Akelarreko batzarra" (the gathering
of the akelarre), deals with the return of the legitimate owners
of the earth, the real gods, and the mention of the akelarre represents
the germination of the seed, for the akelarres are a fecundity
rituals of the goddess Mari,, the most important one in the Basque
mythology. The third song, called "Iluno" (Darkness), an ancient
word found in a prehistoric Basque tomb and written in ancient
Basque, deals with the death of this person and his conversation
with the goddess Mari, who is embodied by the moon. Thus the
cycle finishes with the birth, the fertility, and the death, the
natural cycle of life.
The following musicians collaborated in the three songs:
-Mezzo-soprano: Ainhoa Soraluze.
-Baritone: Josu Lopez S.
-Flute: Haritz Solupe. ( Ilbeltz )
-Violin: Leire Elizes.
-Drums: Barrene.
Aiumeen Basoa
Aiumeen Basoa was founded
in 1994 with the following members: Egoitz (bass, manuals), Beleak
(guitar, voice), Mikelot (guitar, voice), and Belainotz (drums). Later
joined the band Paul (wind instruments), Herio (key board), Ibone (voice),
and Aitor (violin). Thus the band achieved a complete and stable
formation.
Those recorded the Intro and the other two songs included in this Split
CD. The songs recorded in a digital 8 tracks are the following:
"Sorrera" (Intro) represents
the creation of an ethereal world. "Aiumeen Basoa (Arlekina)"
reflects the sad and unknown life of a harlequin. And
in "Aintzinako guduen oroimenez" an old tree tells the
story of an ancient battle to a wanderer who is tired
of walking around.
For that song, Ibai from Ilbeltz collaborated with his voice in some
passages. Aiumeen Basoa gives importance to the mythology of its
land, Euskal Herria (Basque Country), which is full of legends such
the ones dealing the Akelarres or with the burning of the so-called
witches in bonfires. It all influences both the lyrics and musical
direction of the band.
Ilbeltz
The group that later became
Ilbeltz was founded in San Sebastian. The music styles practised so far
looked like far away from the ideas they had at that moment, and their
purpose was to play heavy metal but not any kind of it. Even though different
feeling will appear all through them songs, they had to be at the same
level; that is to say by keeping the possible highest feeling.
Finally the group adopted the name of Ilbeltz and they played various concerts with the following members: Ibai Mendinueta (guitar and voice), Haritz Solupe (guitar and chorus), Aritz Ipinazar (bass), Joseba Zubiaurre (drums).
As their purposes became
wider with the development of their music, the members of the group also
changed:
Ibai Mendinueta: both lead and rhythm guitar, main voice, chromatic
accordion, and key board.
Haritz Solupe: both lead and rhythm guitar, whistle, and chorus.
Egoitz Andonegi: bass.
And the following people
collaborated in the recording of split CD -"Triarchy. Of Vasconia"
Barrene: drums.
Beleak: screams (Aiumeen Basoa).
Olatz Oiarbide: flute.
Eate: growls (Adhur)
Leire Elizes: violin.
Jon Troitiño eta Oier Elorza: txalaparta.
Julen Sota, Iker Goñi; Oihane Arruarte eta Idoia Arana: irrintzi,
garrasi eta txistuak.
Concerning the style, they think that there are some similarities between both classical and extreme metal, and they are looking for that among other things.
But we also like other musical styles apart from the heavy (being that the main pillar of the group): classical music, blues, jazz, Celtic music, ethnic music and many more.
Dealing with the two songs they have chosen for this CD , they could say that they represent two faces of them mood but they are one at the same time. In the first one, "Itsasoaren nigarra", taking into account the lack of an orchestra, the intro is played with a key board, although it was written for a concert. This song especially shows them classical side, although many guitars and black voices can be found there.
They consider very important that music should be a self-sufficient way of expression, and the presence of more passages without lyrics is representative of that.
The song "Itsasoaren nigarra" expresses a situation in which a whale fishing boat regrets fighting in the army in the name of the King and God, so then they ferociously fight against a galleon of the king and win making the galleon sink.
In the place where the whale does not need to breath, there is a fisherman who will not use the harpoon once more. He feels in peace himself, and so being more merged into nature, he is capable of perceiving the conversation between the moon and the sea (quite an non-understandable duty for the vast majority).
The melodic voice represents a fisherman who was as lucky as to see the victory. Meanwhile, the black voice stands for a sailor who lost his life in the depth of the sea. Then at first their combination shows the survivor´s rage echo spreading all through the sea. Likewise at the end, the echo comes from the words of the dead, who knows from his peaceful mood that the fishermen will sink soon.
Concerning the song "Orreaga", they have to mention that it is one of our longest songs together with the previous one. Being instrumental means freedom and pleasure for us.
This song is the musical narration of the fight between the Wascones and the troops of Charlomagne in Orreaga. It is easy to find out a lot information about that in history books. The first acoustic passage, the beginning of the song, shows the peace, calm and beauty of the landscape, which is broken when drums and distortion enter as representatives of the slow troops´ oppressing power.
Later tension grows up until it turns out to be a neverending fight. Many different points of view may be understood within the battle, and all of them will continue until they vanish in the final attempt.
Eye See Black
March 1993
This is the beginning of
EYE SEE BLACK. We all played in different bands before doing rock covers
or playing some kind of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. But when we get together
in this line-up we all want to play aggressive Thrash Metal.
December 1993
We are working very hard
on us as musicians and are writing new songs. We decide to take part at
the famous JOHN LENNON TALENT COMPETITION in Hameln. Our engagement pays
off in winning the first price at this event in the line of self composed
music.
February 1994
Our motivation increases
and we are very fast in writing new material. So we are producing our first
demo, called "eye see black". Because of the good reviews in many fanzines,
mag's and radio shows we are able to play many gigs in the following time
in Germany.
October 1994
We are working even harder
on our new songs and produce our second demo "brainwashed".
We get better reviews on
our new output so we could play live with bands like Jingo De Lunch, Q-Squad,
Terry Hoax, Shifty Sheriffs, Fury In The Slaughterhouse...
May 1995
Again we get a „reward"
for our musical working: EYE SEE BLACK win the first price at the Hildesheimer
Newcomer-festival.
December 1995
Guess what? We've got new
material, so we are entering the studio again. "the rage within" demo is
the result of our recording sessions. We play this year with bands like
GWAR, Dark At Dawn, Guano Apes, Vivid, Terrorgruppe, Catty Caress,...
March 1997
We are very happy about
the great life experiences we got on all those gigs and tours. But it is
time to put some new songs on tape.
July 1997
We decide to make a whole
CD, because of the good sound quality of our new recordings.
1998
We got great reviews on
our CD in MAGAZINES like Rock Hard, Metal Hammer, Bodystyler, Heavy oder
was? and many Fanzines. Here are some bands we played this year: are Iron
Saviour, Stahlhammer, Edguy, Dew-Scented, Fleshcrawl, Hate Squad, Obscenity,
Undertow, Madman's Diary, Headshot, Final Cry, ...
1999
We play Gigs with EARTH
CRISIS, Sick of Society, DIE ALLERGIE, Dry Rot, Crackdown, FARMER BOYS,
EAT NO FISH, Mindashes, Contradiction, ...
2000
We play till the doctor
comes...and we take a rest...a rest? Some of us have to pass test at University
or try to get real say jobs...it's a hard time...
2001
This year we will enter
the studio again and record our second CD!
Argentum
ARGENTUM was formed in 1989
under the name of BURIAL. After a couple of years we changed our name to
Argentum, a symbolic darkname and we began our recording work on "Matter
Misericordiae" out in May 21 ´93... "Matter Misericordiae" shown
a litle of ARGENTUM´s macabral atmosphere while we received a positive
response in many mags, underground zines and radio stations all over the
world and many reviews from important ones like PEARDROP MAG ( FRA ) /
METAL MANIACS ( USA ) / SOD MAG ( USA ) / THE PIT ( USA ) / TERRORIZER

journey to the deepest, obscure, melancholic, symbolic & myghty Argentum´s
kingdom of deathell"... say Led from UNHOLY SACRISTHYAS MAG ( COL ) , "I
liked their last demo already a lot but of course, this is even better"...says
Chris from EXUMED MAG ( GER ).
There was a great positive
response world-wide bringing to the band different offers to record deals
and signed up with FULL MOON PROD ( US ) for the first full-length CD "Ad
Interitum Funebrarum", Argentum is now one of the most macabre music bands
ever known for the human being, and that CD is not the exception.
That CD received a great
response and good reviews world-wide. "Dark and atmospheric black/death
metal with a touch of doom metal. "Argentum managed to combine all these
different types of music and released a real masterpiece...." MOONLIGHT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How did you decide on using Argentum for the name of the band?
"Argentum is a dark symbolic alchemist name in ancient medireview latin lenguage and means something as the the begining and ending from everything over this planet, everyone really into seriously mystic obscurantism and alchemy already known Argentum means"
How would you define your style?
"Currently we think it is uncategorizable, we try to mix a dark-doomy sound with many feelings about music expressions toward the death (muerte, tod, mrtyum) some people will probably say Black-Death or Dark-Doom.....I don´t care about it, involuntary we call our music De Mortis Allegoric Obscurantist Music, a strange complex definition, isn´t it...?"
What are your lyrics about?
"We try to meet our personal subconcious about the real exploration beyond death, as can feel we are personalized with death and obscures emotions like that to show another lost places into ourselves, paralled with this physical world, but the whole context around the death.....beyond, between and alone in many lenguages and somber feelings as a universal darkness"
What are some of your influences and fave bands?
"We enjoy to listen to a lot of music from KING CRIMSON to extreme music as BATHORY, the obscure experimental-neoprogresive dark such as: JACULA, DEVIL DOLL, UNIVERS ZERO, ART ZOYD, LUCIO FULCI, PAUL CHAIN, PRESENT, INFERNOS, AMTONIOUS REX, OZRIC TENTACLES, GOBLIN, CATHARSIS, ANEKDOTEN, PORCUPINE TREE, SATORI, HOYRY-KONE, IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO, LOUVO DI COLOMBO, a real dark music: MALOMBRA, NOETRA, NOVA MALASTRANA, DEAD CAN DANCE, DUNWICH, PRESENCE, CRANES, etc. The old and great golden years of Heavy and Thrash such as: SAVATAGE, RUNNING WILD, MANOWAR, CORONER, MANDATOR, NECRONOMICON,CLOVEN HOOF, OMEN, NASTY SAVAGE, SATAN, IRON ANGEL, RAZOR, CITIES, HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH, ASSASSIN, NECROVORE, OBSCURITY, SLAUGHTER LORD, EXORCIST, PROTECTOR, OSTROGOTH, WARLORD, ARMORED SAINT, VIRGIN STEEL, ANGEL DUST, PROTECTOR, EXUMER, HEAVY LOAD, ANGEL WITCH, WITCHFYNDE, CANDLEMASS, HAVE MERCY, etc. Of course our faves of all times: MERCYFUL FATE, BATHORY, VENOM, POSSESSED, BLACK SABBATH, MAYHEM, DESTRUCTION, HELLHAMMER, SLAYER, SODOM, etc. Also a lot of the 90's metal bands such as MEMENTO MORI, MONUMENTUM, HAMMERFALL, STRATOVARIUS, PARADISE LOST, CONCEPTION, MY DYING BRIDE, DIMMU BORGIR, THERION, CREMATORY, DISMAL EUPHONY, IN FLAMES, SINERGY, NEVERMORE, BLIND GUARDIAN, ICED EARTH, KATATONIA, THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, ARCTURUS, SIX FEET UNDER, DEATH WITCH, WITCHERY, ARCH ENEMY, THE CROWN, SACRED STEEL, NIGHTWISH, OPERA IX, and many more.
The new material will be
more sinister, dense and darker than the same obscurity. I do not care
about what fuck´n style people can classify ARGENTUM, it will always
be music for darkness of a desolated soul. Everything about our music surround
the death and everything that it involves.........."
I hope people can feel their
own feelings of obscurity to go through our music.
To see ARGENTUM is to feel
an atmosphere of penetrating cold and to perceive the presence of a gelid
death......."

Denial Of God biography
– A history of Metal and Horror
(Updated April 2001 A.S.)
1991:
Denial Of God is formed July 5th by the brothers Ustumallagam (vocals)
and Azter (guitar) (the only remaining members from back then) along with
a drummer named Uksul. Inspired by a variety of bands and artists like
Alice Cooper, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Death SS, Mayhem, Bathory, Infernäl
Mäjesty and Hellhammer (to name just a few) and everything related
to horror, Satanism and the occult and supernatural, the band starts writing
their first early material.
1992:
This material ends up on the band's first demo tape entitled "Oscularium
Infame" which is released in summer 1992. Meanwhile a bassist, Kulmar,
joins the band. Being recorded simply in the rehearsal room on a tape recorder
and at a such an early stage, the sound turns out bad and the playing is
anything but tight. The demo is loved by some and hated by many, but shows
a band that does not care about the current trends at the time and are
going their own way, musically as well as lyrically and even image-wise.
It is fair to say the band becomes very much the opposite of the currents
a time where most bands will deliver stripped down shows and dealing with
the supernatural is regarded as something belonging to the past. Most people
fail to understand the concept of the band and some slag the band for the
use of horror make-up and their Satanic approach. The demo includes among
others "Dethrone the Tyrant-God!" which is still played live today and
also is re-recorded for the 1999 mini-album "Klabautermanden". Followingly
the band plays its first 2 shows of which the latter takes place in Sweden.
Already at these concerts the band gains a notorious reputation for their
onstage antics, which includes the use of living maggots thrown at the
concert audience.
1993:
Kulmar leaves the band and is replaced for a short time by Nomos, but
he is thrown out of the band for lack of dedication and skills, so the
second demo "The Dawn of Aemizaez", this time a real studio recording,
is recorded as a 3-piece. The demo includes songs like "Follow those who
died" which has since become a classic and a concert standard. The demo
is followed by a massive amount of interviews in underground magazines
around the world and Denial Of God gain a lot of reputation. "The Dawn
of Aemizaez" is still considered by many to be one of the demos from that
period in time.
1994:
The line-up is again completed by a new bassist, Fargel, and with this
line-up they record their first 7" EP "The Statues are Watching" for the
Italian label Maggot.
1995:
"The Statues are Watching" (b/w a re-recording of "The dawn of Aemizaez")
is released in a limited edition of 1000 copies and is immediately sold
out from the label. Being impressed with the band's work, the UK based
label Dark Trinity Productions signs the band for the release of a mini-album
and a full length album. The recording of "The Ghouls of DOG" begins.
1996:
Recordings for the mini-album "The Ghouls of DOG" are finished and
the mini-CD is released during the summer. Before the release the band
plays the first live show since 1992 which is soon followed by a 3-date
mini-tour through Holland and Belgium. These concerts see the band developing
their imagery to the now wellknown "ghoul look" which is also shown on
the front cover of "The Ghouls of DOG". While loved by some, the band is
again despised by mainly reviewers, often focusing more on the imagery
(the band pictures show a naked woman being bitten and bleeding and the
ghouls of DOG standing on a grave with human bones and skulls) than the
music and lyrics. Denial Of God are, however, again not impressed by the
reviewers' opinion (on the contrary), knowing that this is all a part of
their hideous horror themed Metal. The mini-album includes the darkest
and most creepy material yet, among others the 8-minute epic "The Crypt
has Eyes". After an additional live show bassplayer Fargel is thrown out
of the band for his lack of dedication and the band once again continues
a 3-piece.
1997:
New songs are written, but early in the year Uksul decides to leave
the band and leave Ustumallagam and Azter behind as the only original members.
Right before his departure some new songs are recorded as demos. These
recordings are the last to feature Uksul on drums and at the same time
the first to feature some vocals by soon-to-be bassist Isaz. She joins
a few months later and becomes the last member of the line-up which has
meanwhile been joined by Sorgh on drums. Once again the horror continues.
1998:
Being dissatisfied with the ways of Dark Trinity Productions, Denial
Of God leaves the label and signs with Hammerheart Records for the release
of a new mini-album and a full length album. Due to the distance between
the members rehearsals are few, but the band enters the studio at the end
of the year to record the mini-album to be entitled "Klabautermanden".
1999:
In spring a 7" EP entitled "The Curse of the Witch" is released on
Sombre Records to shorten the wait for the upcoming mini-album. This 7"
EP contains demo recordings from 1997 and is mainly meant as a collector's
item and as a life sign to show the band is still in existence. Shortly
after the band is once again incomplete as Sorgh decides to leave the band,
but a new session drummer is found in R. Salskov. "Klabautermanden" is
released and the title track becomes the first and up till today only song
with lyrics in their own language. At the same time the band decides to
re-record two old songs along with some cover songs for the release on
two 7" EPs. The band performs one live show this year which causes them
to be banned from ever playing the place again due to the gory trail left
behind from the raw meat mixed with blood and maggots.
2000:
Again the band parts ways with their label. Not only did the label
release the mini-album without the lyrics printed (something the band always
did since the first demo, believing the lyrics are an important factor
of the concept), but also fails to promote the band in a proper way and
generally back out as the band is not commercial enough for them, relying
too much on major distributions and reviewers. The "The Crypt has Eyes"
7" EP is released and the limited edition is again sold out fast. The 7"
EP is backed with a haunting cover of Death SS' classic "Terror". Another
live show (the band's 10th) is played and again the band has to face arguing
over the bloody live show. While the venues despise the band, the reactions
from the audience reaches from amazement to shock, but the ghouls leave
their impression as always. The summer furthermore sees the release of
"The Ghouls of DOG" with bonus tracks on cassette format on the Russian
label Oupiric Productions and the name starts to spread in Eastern Europe
and other countries where the cassette format is still the most common.
The band continues to rehearse (although again on a rare basis as the band
members still live far from each other).
2001:
"The Crypt has Eyes" is re-released due to the high demand for it and
is followed shortly after by the second 7" EP entitled "Robbing the Grave
of the Priest" on Warlord Records. This one is backed with a haunting cover
of Mayhem's classic "Funeral Fog". There will be a very limited picture
disc version coming out soon and also a picture disc version of "The Ghouls
of DOG" on Azter's own Horror Records later this year. In May Denial Of
God will play at the "2 Heavy 4 U!" festival in Sweden. Furthermore the
band will sign with the Belgian label Painkiller Records for the release
of the long awaited album "The Horrors of Satan" (On both LP and CD formats)
which will be recorded in the autumn. This album will be preceded by a
limited edition 12"/CD-single with a track from the forthcoming album and
two exclusive songs. The band will not stray away from their long defined
Horror and Metal and the album will be the band's most sinister effort
yet.
